A classic children's film for a night on the sofa with the nephews and nieces?
Oct 21, 2008 by franfisherman | Posted in Movies
Looking for a classic/ all time great film to sit down and watch with my nephews. Sort of thinking along the lines of something that isn't a modern one but a bit of an oldie, the sort of thing that children loved in the 'olden days'; Any ideas and reasons why?
btw - their ages are from 6-11, boys and girls
Thanks!
A couple of Disney films spring to mind - Dumbo, Lady & the Tramp, Fox & the Hound....
There were a few fantasy films I loved as a kid - Flight of Dragons and the Last Unicorn, The Princess Bride, Dark Crystal or Labyrinth.
Otherwise some old Laurel and Hardy or Buster Keaton would probably do the trick - I watched Way Out West last week and laughed till I nearly cried.

song of the south (if you can find it, and if you're not one of those people who think it's racist)
the songs are catchy, it's colorful, the brer rabbit, etc stories are great, and it's olden days

All kinds of Disney silms from that era, as Disney was the master of children's entertainment:
Mary Poppins
Jungle Book
The Fox and the Hound
Robin Hood
For non-Disney films, may I suggest Willow and The Never-Ending Story.

The Jungle Book or Anything with the Muppets in it
Kids love the cuteness and the music/songs (and so do adults!)
for the more adventurous and daring, they may prefer..
Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The Thief of Baghdad
The Princess Bride
ET
The Wizard of Oz
The Adventures of Robin Hood
you should all should enjoy at least one of those

STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS
I was about 8 when i first saw the first three. I'm nearly 26 and haven't bored of them one bit, nor have i grown into a nerd. Just simply become a film junkie.
If you don't fancy Star Wars, i'd go for Ghostbusters or Back to the Future.
