Customer Reviews

looks good
The first set I got was broken but the second set was good. It looks great on my wall and gives me spots to put small candles, etc.
Cute Cubbies
something a little bit different to show off your decor
variety is endless with these three pieces

Fragile
I set these up in my living room wall and set a small phone inside the big square, it lasted a couple of days then fell apart. They looked really nice though.
hmmm, not quite
the boxes were really small and flimsy. as to how to install them, directions not there. unfortunately, i had to send them back.
so cute
these are a great accent to have. my room is very small and it gives me a place to put candles and pictures without crowding my room up. don't expect to put anything in the smallest block! i have a tiny tiny candle in there which i can't light because it will build too much heat up in the box.

Great Item
Perfect Shelving unit to hide wires and clutter behind all the components, just wish the instructions were more clear for measuring purposes.
Nice and Sleak. Looks great!
If you don't know how to mount to your wall, don't try it! A professional mounted the plate for me and the rest was quite easy.
suits my needs
I got this to mount my equipment to the side of my wall mounted plasma tv in order to have it high enough off the ground to keep my twin 3 year old boys from messing with it (they damaged my previous tv). I just use a couple cable runners between the tv/audio equipment and the components.

The plastic covers for hiding the cables on the spine of the shelves don't go on very easily and nothing really holds the cables in place while trying to snap the cover on. As a result I am only using a cover for the bottom section which is fine for my needs.
OmniMount Triap adjustable 3ShelfSystemw/Cablemanagement
I FOUND THIS PRODUCT TO BE VERY USEFUL AND THE QUALITY OF THE SHELVING IS REALLY NICE AND DURABLE I REALLY LIKE HOW THE GLASS SHELVES HAVE THE CUT OUTS FOR THE SCREWS, I WAS EASY TO INSTALL AND LOOKS GREAT WITH MY STEREO UNIT AND NEW TELEVISION. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO ASKED ME WHERE I GOT IT FROM, IN FACT SOMEONE ALLREADY DID AND I TOLD HIM. THANKS FOR SUCH A GOOD PRODUCT. SUSAN BASHI
Very Nice Wall Rack with poor cable management
I purchased the OmniMount TRIAP Adjustable 3 Shelf Wall System w/ Cable Management through Amazon.com. It was at an ok price. The system looks very nice except for 1 thing, the cables. You will notice in all the pictures of this system there are no cables shown, however, there is no way to put this system without cables being seen. It only took a about 30 minutes to put on the wall following some very simple instructions. Due to the weight being supported by the shelf system, it must be mounted to a stud, which might be limiting for some as to where it can be mounted vs. where you want it mounted. Many pictures show a medium to large flat screen mounted on a wall with the shelf rack centered under the tv. This is not really possible. If you think about it, the tv wall mount needs to be mounted across at least 2 studs, most likely not near the center of the tv but about 8-20 inches off center of the tv. One of the same studs needs to be used to mount this rack system. So in most cases I think this system will be mounted off center. i kind of liked it like that, so not a big deal for me. The metal, screws and glass are all high quality and have very nice finish, then you get to the plastic cable hiding system. What a joke! I could not get all the cables behind this 3 piece plastic cable hiding system and I worked on it for hours. I tried several ways. We are only talking 3 components(tivo, vcr, dvd), an external drive to the tivo and the TV. There simply is not enough room in this plastic cover to put these cables. With working at for some time I was able to squeeze the cables into the back of the plastic cable hiding pieces but there is no way to get it to snap onto the vertical mounting bar with the cables. Needles to say I am disappointed in the system because of the problem.

Great shelf - no instructions.
This is a great garage type shelf unit. I keep scrap wood trim on mine and the pcs don't fall aff cuz of the wire sides. They don't come with instructions so you kinda have to guess as to how it is suppposed to go. Not too complicated tho'

Customer Reviews

relatively easy and looks nice
Needed a shelf for the cable box and didn't want wire to run down walls. This serves both purposes and was very easy to install. (Done by 2 women with minimal knowledge of construction) Looks great under wall mounted TV.
Wall Mount T.V Hardware
Unit is solid, and very nice looking. The instructions is hard to understand. over all this product met our needs.
Great Product.
Good product, very practical and works good with a tv attached to a wall bracket.
Well built but design lacking
Pros:
1. Nice looking.
2. Hides cables well.

Cons:
1. Front of shelf tilts noticeably toward floor. Had to put some washers in the bottom of shelf to level it up.
2. Unstable. Tilts side-to-side after installation.
3. Shelf could be a little larger. My components sit on or very near the edge.
4. Poor instructions.

It's too bad that the mechanical design of the shelf doesn't match the aesthetic quality. A few minor changes and this would be a 5 star item.
Useless for Cord Management
I don't know why everyone is giving this product a 4 or 5 star. Yeah it's well built but there not a lot that can go wrong with the design of a hangup bracket. The point of this product is for it to be useful as a shelf system for your wall mount television and to do it in a clean pleasing manner.

This shelf system will not hide your cords from the device on the shelf. It will only hide cords that go through from top to bottom. So if you considering this to neatly put a VCR or DVD on the shelf and hide the cords ..... BUY SOMETHING ELSE. And by the way the installation instructions are horrible. It even claims you can hide cords coming from the shelf when in reality you cannot. Go to OMNIMOUNT and download the install instructions before you even consider buying this. You will quickly realize it will not work in hiding cords.

what does a stud finder do? do i really need one when putting up wall shelving?

i'm going to put up some wall shelving. i want to know if i should use a stub finder? i don't have very much money to use, and i'm sure they're a bit expensive, do i need one? how useful are they?

also how accurate are levels? i want to make sure the thing is leveled really well.

A stud finder helps you find the wood studs behind your drywall, so that you can secure your wall shelves to something stable. If you just hang the shelves on the wall, not secured to the studs, and put something heavy on them, they could fall down. Stud finders aren't very expensive. Levels are very accurate, you should be able to find both of these at Lowe's or Home Depot in a range of prices.

you can buy a combo set . stud finder w/ laser level at wal-mart / lowes for about $20.

we just hung wall art in our house & they both worked great

levels are pretty accurate...and I'm sure you could borrow a stud finder or rent one from rent a center or something. Stud finders are pretty useful for this kind of job.

Everytime I go to Home Depot and I walk down the STUD finder aisle they all start beeping at me

Your walls are made with two by four lengths of wood--called "STUDS".
the walls that you see are made of drywall that is attached to the "STUDS" (two by fours).

If you attempt to attach shelving (or ANYTHING else) to the drywall, it will fall down--leaving a hole or holes in your wall.

You must attach your shelving to the studs.

Soooo, yes. you gotta have a stud finder.

Sorry!

Oh, and if you want to save money, you can use a small glass of water for a level. It works fine.

Studs by code should be on 16" center so once you find 1 you can find them all.If you look at a wall(at a short angle) you might see where the edges of the sheetrock were joined. If not see where a elec. outlet is there will be a stud(usually on the left side of it but sometimes on the right(due to a left handed electrician) and work from there 16" each side.

stud finders never work for me. just knock on the wall with your knuckle, when it sounds solid drill with a tiny drill bit to check it. have matching paint to cover the tiny hole if you miss. the next stud is most likely 16 or 24 inches away

How to make a wall shelving unit from 1 x 4 recycled wood pallets.?

I need some suggestions on how to piece together and secure to drywall small sections of 1 x 4 recycled wood pallets to make a wall shelving unit approximately 7' x 7'. The number of shelves, spacing and symetry are not a major concern. Securing the pieces together to make the longer runs and what type of ties to use to secure to the wall is the biggest concern - aesthetics come later. Form follows function. I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

Karen, that is a very tough project using wood pallets. Think about maybe finding a second hand shelve unit at a garage sale or a second hand store. I wish you the best of luck on your project.

What color should my wall shelving?

I have a tan bedroom with white trim. Furniture is an antiqued wood. Should the shelves be white, black, or an antiqued wood (which would be difficult to match)? Picture frames are black.

That depends.

WHITE will make the shelves stand out (but not so much that it's 'loud'), but it will make the room seem airier, more fresh. It will match with the white trim, also.

BLACK will stand out, but it will probably be a focal point in the tan coloured room. It gives the room more volume. Black is a nice choice as it compliments the picture frames.

ANTIQUED WOOD will, in turn, blend in with the room, making everything cozier, smoother. It will definitely match with the furnitures in the room.

If I were to choose a colour, I would go with white. It's nice and subtle. A classic colour you'll never get tired of. Since your room is already very antique-y, adding more antiqued wood will be too much. Black is nice, but ..not nice enough.

:) I hope that helps! & Good Luck.

What kind of fastener would one use to mount a heavy shelving unit to a concrete basement wall?

What kind of fastener would one use to mount a heavy shelving unit to a concrete basement wall? And how does one go about mounting such a unit without doing damage to the wall? Is concrete like would in that it will not crack or chip so long as one makes a pilot hole almost as wide as the particular bolt? What precautions are neccessary?

You will need a number of items. First off, do you have a hammer drill, if not, not to worry, any electrical drill should work. This may not be a job for one of those battery powered units.

Go to Home Depot and get the right size anchors. Ask the guy at the store to direct you to the correct ones to use for your application. Note that there are some really good and simple to use anchors.

Check to make sure that you have the correct "concrete" drill bit. Do not attempt to drill the hole with a drill bit for wood or metal...it will not work. Drill the hole to the depth of the anchor and put the anchor into the wall. Most anchors require that you "set" them properly before putting the bolt in.

There are two ways to typically set an anchor. One type is where you place the anchor into the hole, put a centre punch tool down the hole of the anchor, and with a hammer bang the bottom. There is a small bullet like capsule on the bottom that expands the anchor in the hole. Now you are ready to insert your bolt or threaded rod.

The other type of anchor requires that you drill a hole as before, usually these anchors have the bolt as part of the anchor assembly, put the anchor in the hole and place a washer on the bolt, flush with the wall. Hand tighten the nut down as far as you can and with an open-ended wrench start turning the nut clockwise. You will feel it tightening up. Remove the nut and washer, place your bracket on the wall and voila.

If you do not want to use anchors, you can use wooden dowels. You will still be required to drill the concrete to the size just below the size of the wooden dowel that you purchased. Once the hole is drilled, hammer in the wooden dowel into the hole. This should be very snug and tight, even to the point where you cannot comfortably pull the wooden dowel out.. Cut the dowel flush to the wall and use large woodscrews. The larger and longer the better. Remember, if you use a 3 inch screw, the hole has to be a minimum of three inches deep and the dowel of course would be the same length.

This last method is not as strong as using properly set anchors. I would use, at a minimum, double the amount of wood dowels as I would use anchors.

If you make a mistake with the anchors and the hole turns out too big, get bigger anchors or in those instances, use the wood dowel.

How heavy of a shelf are you putting up anyway? Make sure you mention that to the Home Depot guy.

I hope this helps.

How much would the cheapest wall shelving kit be?

Something kinda like this

http://www.acemart.com/graphics/00000001/products/INM12WS12C.jpg

Something along them lines run differant prices. Name means everything. I have seen shelving like that sold cheaply (home depot and lowes) They have shelving and all the other items needed to build your own custom shelving to your own size and specs. It truely depends on your need and fit. Go to the section around the accoustical tiles, the shelving is there. You will need the shelving itself, the plastic lock down's (for the back of the shelf) and the metal arms (to hold the shelf up) When installing make sure you have them screwed into the studs, or else it will pull from the wall. The shelving comes a beautiful white color, and all parts and accesories are matching. I hope this helps.

I built shelves in my linen closet for under $100 and there are 6 sections of shelves.
