Have you ever just let your toddler sleep on a small mattress on the floor?

Do we really need to buy a toddler bed? I don't think he is ready to sleep up on a twin bed yet either though... so how about a crib mattress on the floor?
He is 15 months old, but already sleeps on a little mattress/sleeping bag at daycare and does really well.
He is having troubles waking up in the middle of the night and we can't determine why, so this is a new thing to try and see if it works.
Sounds fine to me, plus you won't have to worry about him rolling out. My daughter hated her crib( I think she was afraid of the height because she showed some fears at other times when she was off the floor or high up) . So we put her on a twin mattress on the floor and it was the greatest thing ever. She slept most of the night from then on. She was about 18 months or so I think.

i never did but I dont see anything wrong with it, its safer if you really think about it. I would do what you think is best!

If you're planning on having more kids, then a toddler bed is a good investment. Plus, you can always resell it in the newspaper or on a site like Ebay and get some (if not all) of your money back for it.
I really wouldn't just let him sleep on the floor on the mattress. That just seems a little...weird? I dunno. I mean, I wouldn't mind sleeping on the floor as long as I had a mattress but I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my kid sleep on the floor everynight like that.
It might make it harder to get him to sleep in a real bed later on if you let him sleep on the floor now.
Get a toddler bed..they're only around $100 bucks..it's worth it.

My daughter went through a stage of waking up at night due to her foot hanging off the new toddler bed or jsut a plain fear of falling off. So for awhile I took the frame away and put the mattress on the floor then she did fine. When she got use to the bed limits a couple months down the road I put the bed back together and made it special for her it was a princess thing and I let her help so she was excited to slep there. Also there are the theme toddler beds cars, fire trucks and stuff too.

Yes and once I let the baby sleep in a suitcase.

Try it definately...I put my daughter in afull sized single (twin) bed when she was 18 months and she was fine...a matress will make a good transition for him...

Letting your child sleep on a mattress on the floor is very reasonable. Most daycares use cots for this purpose. As long as you have a safe and routine spot where your child feels secure, where it is does not matter. All three of my kids went through a period around that age where they woke up frequently at night crying for no apparent reason. I finally concluded that since their imagination is taking off during this time, that night terrors or dreams were the problem. It does pass. Just be understanding and supportive, so they know they are secure.

I don't understand why you don't want to buy a toddler bed. They're inexpensive and you can use the crib mattress. He'd sleep in it for a while. Why would you want him to sleep on a mattress on the floor? It just seems odd.

My daughter is still in her crib but I've decided that we are not getting a her a toddler bed. I plan on getting a twin bed and putting it on the floor until she is safe to sleep with it on a bed frame. I figure that getting a twin bed is cheaper than getting a toddler bed and then a twin bed later.

I haven't but I would. I co-sleep and was planning to just move the crib mattress to the floor to his room when my mom gave us my sisters old "toddler" bed that takes a twin mattress. Its really low to the ground but more to the point its more "fun".
If you put the mattress on the floor and he doesn't like it then you can look into other options.
