9" deep size fit snugly, so they are smooth under sheets. Also very soft, breathable all cotton, and price better-- (unlike the super deep covers I previously bought at department store which all say fit up to 16" thick mattress and fit ridiculously loose and sloppy on a normal mattress)

the perfect mattress cover
Specifically, I wanted an allergen and dust mite barrier, but definitely without the waterproof feature. Waterproof covers are both noisy and do not breath, making the bed seem hot and may make one perspire. This one is perfect. It is lightweight and only lets oxygen through it. I have bought a similar one at Macy's which cost about 40% more than this brand on Amazon. for me, the easiest way to put it on the mattress was to stand mattress on end and gently pull it down, then zip other end after lifting it back onto bed.

great quality for the $$$
This mattress cover was so reasonable compared to others I'd looked at I was concerned perhaps the quality was lacking, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived that it was fine. Of course, when you put the mattress in the cover, support it so that it doesn't tear but it should work for you if you're careful. It was just great value for the price--will probably order more for all the mattresses in our house. Why purchase an ordinary mattress cover for the home when you can get one that is dust/mite/bug proof for the same price or less?

Does a smaller pore size on an allergy mattress cover make it less breathable?

I'm going to be purchasing some fabric allergy mattress/pillow covers to help cut down on dust mites.

Of the 2 that I'm looking at one has a pore size of 2.8 microns (this is made for dust and pet dander) and the other has a pore size of 6 microns.

Would the 2.8 micron fabric less breathable (thus hotter sleeping) than the 6 micron fabric?

Pore size determines protection from allergens. If you are looking at just dust mites, the 6 microns will be adequate. However, if you are also allergic to molds and pet dander then you want a pore size of less than 3 microns.

The size of the pore does not affect breathability - the material used in making the cover decides this. Microfibre is the most breathable.

I need to stop stains from wound drainage getting to the mattress and blood stains. They are spots that I would like to prevent getting on the new mattress until the surgical sites are healed. I thought the slip cover first and then the pad so it can be changed when needed and I could buy another. The cover is expensive and I would not like to stain it much either.

If planning on using both, the cover should be a size larger than you need.
If desire extra protection, buy a cheap shower liner (usually under $5) and put long portion across the width of the mattress & tuck under mattress. I wash it in washing machine with only a 2 minute LOW dryer setting. Then keep it folded with my extra blankets & sheets to put on bed or couch if someone's kid is here to prevent wet accidents plus used after surgery, too.
