Are do not disturb signs inappropriate for an office environment?

I have a sign on my office door and when I close the door the sign says what I mean. Is that inappropriate?

As long as you aren't keeping the door closed all day, I don't see a problem with it. You do need time to get some things done, and you can't do certain things with another standing in your doorway. And there are plenty of things that don't belong in the gossip pool at the office water cooler. Some things are private, and you are smart to keep them that way.

No.

Well, depends on what your job is. If you really need privacy (doing payroll work, personnel records, etc.), then it's appropriate. If co-workers need your input throughtout the day though, take it down.

Nope, it means you don't want to be disturbed because you are busy.

Of course it is. I'd respect it.

No, how you going to sleep if people keep disturbing you?

If you don't have a receptionist to run interferance for you, then such a sign might be the only way to get uninterupted time. However, you must balance your need for uninterupted time with the need to make yourself available to your co-workers. Perhaps it would be better to post a sign, warning your collegues in advance that you will not available during certain hours? Is it an option to do this sort of work away from the office?

Why no just post "Leave me the Hll Alone".

Simply closing your door should suffice.

Not at all, you need privacy for certain work things such as conference calls, meetings and just plain concentration. I think is is ok defiantly.

It depends on your position within the company and the level of privacy your position requires. If you're not in management and do not perform tasks requiring security and secrecy, then the sign is rude and inappropriate. Try to find another way to deal with intruders that's not quite so "in your face".

If you have the approval of upper management to use this sign, then I don't see the problem.

I agree with MusicMan5.

I think it is a great idea as long as you are working behind closed doors and not having sex with your co-workers...

Some job are hard and need all your thoughts I think I would have to say that it is not inappropriate. Be sure though that it is not a gauty sign, be sure it is presentable in an office setting!

probably inappropriate unless the whole office uses signs like you do. I do know what you mean though there are always office gabbers who would rather be talking in your office than in their own getting their work done. It makes it hard to work and you want to lock your door when you see them coming.

NO, it's fine. If they need you let them send you an email.

A sign hangs precariously from your prof's office door. Calculate the magnitude of the tension in string 1, if θ1 = 36.44°, θ2 = 57.63°, and the mass of the sign is 3.1 kg.

You need a picture or much more complete description of the setup for this to be an answerable ?

Should we make the sign on the back door to our office bigger?

The office I work at has a sign on the back door that says (verbatum):

"All visitors, including deliveries, please use the entrance at the front of the building. We're sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you!"

Guess what? PEOPLE STILL USE THE BACK DOOR! Do people think this rule doesn't apply to the or something?!? This is especially aggravating for me as I'm the receptionist and I'm the one who's supposed to be greeting our visitors! I'm thinking that I should suggest we make the sign bigger since the majority vote in the office ruled that we shouldn't keep the back door locked (**rolls eyes**).

What do you think?

It sounds like making the sign bigger is your best option since I'm pretty sure that locking the door would violate the fire code and have the fire Marshal out there ASAP. I would make it with as large a font as possible and make it in bold yet tasteful colors to make it extra eye catching. If that doesn't work just find a motion activated sensor that yells at people to go to the front door! (Just kidding)

There are TWO large "No Soliciting" signs on the front door to my office...?

and I still get solicitors coming in. Today a guy walked in and when I asked if he'd noticed the signs, he said, "It's hard not to! They're so big!" He then proceeded to try to solicit business.

I put the signs up because the constant stream of salespeople was interrupting my work flow. How can I get these persistant "go-getters" to stop?
Actually, Summer Shudder there IS something wrong with it. I don't want to do business with someone who can't follow my clearly stated wishes.
I'm glad I asked this question here because I've gotten some insight into the mind of a door-to-door saleperson.

Michael, you would commit criminal trespass then, entering property on which you are neither an invitee nor a licensee, in order to prey on someone you consider an easy touch.

Believe me, knowing that's the attitude, I'm drawing the line with my interrupting solicitors. Thank you for the heads-up.

Why don't you post instructions on how they can present themselves and their companies to perhaps garner your business?

I always went after these signs because generally they got put up because the person can't say no real easy.

If you are going to cut off a form of contact - offer another way they can try to garner your business in a way you can be open minded about.

get this?.SIGN ON AN OFFICE DOOR:any1 wh 2k de step ladder yesterdy plz re10 it,or further steps wil b taken!?

I get it. Do you get this one? Someone stole all the toilets in the police station and they don't know who did it. They have nothing to go on.
