Can burglar alarms be triggered just by jiggling a door?

If someone shook a front door, could the burglar alarm go off? This is kind of urgent.
also: could the alarm company tell whether the door was entirely opened or if it was simply jiggled?

Depends on the kind of door and contact.

If it is a sliding door it can happen....
For a regular door it will happen if the contact is not at the right place or it is mechanical plunger /wheel type with a lot of play.

Some doors also may have a glass break sensor which may go off when the door is shaken hard.

No.. the alarm co. will not know if the door was opened or jiggled, as the switch gets tripped, they have no idea for how long the door was opened, and to what degree it opened.

I work on a new 2007 E350 ambulance (McCoy Miller).

Some of the more annoying habits of these vehicles is the "door ajar" alarms. If the driver's door is open, you get the standard door dinger. When we have the rear or side passenger doors open, we have a high pitched whine that gets REAL annoy REAL fast.

Does anyone know of a way to disable one or more of these alarms without disabling the lights that come on when the door is open?

I am moving into a two-level townhome and I am concerned about being asleep upstairs, and not hearing if someone breaks in downstairs. I would like to get those door and window alarms where you attach part of it to the door frame and part of it to the door and it sounds when they are opened. I've been browsing around and they seem really cheap, like 10 bucks, and that makes me skeptical. Anyone know what brands are good ones? I need one that is loud enough to wake me up upstairs.
