Does anybody know anything about biometric door locks?

I've been to the US recently and discovered biometric locks - simply put, accessing a property using a finger print rather than a door key / keypad.... I am building a new home and may consider using one of these locks but am not sure of any weaknesses / flaws with these locks. Can they be bypassed, what if my hands are wet, greasy, sweaty, missing??!!! Is there a good brand? I have seen some models that can be imported from China and the US but am still a bit sceptical.

They did this topic on Mythbusters on the Discovery channel... They were able to lift a fingerprint off of an object (like forensic scientists), copy it to a replica cast of a finger, and gain access...

Just a little food for thought..

Sir , methinks you need to get a life and have other things to worry about!

well i know you can get some that read finger prints, costs about $200 and they can store anywhere from 10 to 100 prints. They also have some that use a finger print and a pin # just in case it doesnt work for various reasons.

They work the same way that police scan fingerprints. As long as your print is readable, it should work, so sweaty or wet should be fine, but very dirty might throw it off. If your fingers are missing, then I can't imagine how much trouble you have holding onto your keys. THEY'RE not attached.

While it's possible to trick the lock, it's definitely not easy. You have to get ahold of a good print of someone that the lock is keyed to and create a synthetic print from it. Not too many people have the ability or desire to do so.

Not sure about brands. I do know that not only are they available for door locks, but you can get fingerprint scanners that lock out your computer too.

Biometric door locks?

Home fingerprint keypad lever locks seem cool but do they work? Are they more trouble than a regular door lock for home?
Would be great to hear from people who own one.
The ones I've seen online and the home shows claim one year 4 AA bateries. No worry about outages.
This is where I went...

Locks are only as good as the buildings they are attached to. I'm a professional Carpenter, locks are only as secure as the door you mount them to, a residential door does not warrant an expensive high security lock, because there are too many other ways to get in. Just remember this old carpenter's saying, "Locks will only stop an honest Thief".

is there such a thing as an exterior 5 lever biometric lock?

My insurance company requires me to have a 5 lever lock on my front door, and I would really like to use fingerprint technology.
Anyone know of any companies that sell these?
My searches so far have not found any that are up to the security standard.

Thanks

Biometric locks are available but I dont know about the levers.
Zycom is a company which produces and sells these.

What are good ways to secure a small business office? Interior doors and exterior doors? Cabinets?

I am looking into keyless entry. I suppose a card system would be too expensive for our small business. I started looking at keyless locks. Biometric seems best except the battery life?

There is mechanical keyless locks but those usually are just deadbolts? I would hope to find some way to have the spring type? not the deadbolts . where you can close the door and it locks by itself.

Ideas? What about front door? Biometric seems like a great idea? We can't afford too expensive systems.

I have Schlage front entry lock on my door runs about $130 at Home Depot and it will relock upon closing if you buy the handle version: http://consumer.schlage.com/electronics/product-tour.asp?product=entry

For your cabinets here is a link to a site with electronic keypad locks: http://www.nokey.com/elkecalo.html

Good Luck!
