Terrific Cane Seat
This Travelon cane seat is perfect for those who need to rest while standing in long lines or needing to stop while walking. It is lightweight, easy to open and use, and really does support a large person: I am 5'10" and weigh 230 lbs. When using it as a cane just be sure that you keep the cane part vertical.
Nice sturdy cane chair
Nice product, seems secure and hefty enough for frequent use. A little awkward to carry, that's the only downside.
Mr
This is a good device. It would be better, however, if it were collapsible to a size that would fit in a typical suitcase
Love it
Love it -- I have spinal stenosis and can't stand for a long time. This cane is lightweight - easy to carry around and provides comfortable seat for times I have to wait around. Would highly reccommend.
Great cane/seat combo
This is sturdy and the seat is small but roomy. My mom loves this cane/seat combo. Having a seat available when she needs it is great. We will take it to a very large quilt show this week and she will be able to sit and rest when she needs to. With all the extra walking we'll do I hope she'll let me take turns too!

Not fast or easy
This book gives detailed instructions, but none of them are fast or simple. After buying the book I decided to take my chairs to a professional.
Excellent Resource
This is an excellent book for added information beyond what we have. There were many useful suggestions and we are glad to have found it in the library and then been able to purchase it so easily. Thank you.
Needs a section on different shapes of chairs!
I found the pictures in this book very helpful, but I really needed more help when my chairs differed from the ones the author was caning. (This is the only section of the book I use.) I've used 3 books and two videos as I have learned to cane (I'm still not very good at it; I take lots of rows out and on one chair had to rip out all of step 5 and most of step 6) and each one has different strengths and weaknesses. The color photos in this book were of great help, although I would have liked closeups of the caning along with photos of the entire finished chairs. I also wish the author had given more helpful hints on how to avoid problems!
I have concluded that the best way to learn how to cane is to take a class or apprentice yourself temporarily to an expert caner. But I'm having fun!
Incomplete guide to Chair Caning
While this book did touch on different kinds of restoration, I was hoping for a more complete chapter on actual caning, including different patterns and styles.
Bought as a gift
I bought this item as a gift for my son-in-law. He liked the detail of the illustrations and seemed pleased overall with the book.

Customer Reviews

Couch Cae is Simplicity Itself!
This Couch Cane is ingenius! It is simple to install (took me maybe 15 minutes)It is easy to use and it is very solid and secure. I like being able to get up without having to call for help.
Much Nicer Than Expected
I bought this about a month ago, and apparently it had been redesigned since the photo shown here. It is very sturdy and the appearance is nicer than I had expected. It was really easy to install and I think the redesign eliminated the problem some reviewers seem to have had with the bolts because mine only needed one bolt in one place. I had abdominal surgery and could not get up without help before I got the Couch Cane. Now I just use the Couch Cane and I don't need anyone around to help me. It is nice to enjoy the independence I am used to.
Standers Couch Cane
Doesn't work very well. A straight chair next to a couch is probably better. Even the use of a cane might be as good.
Good product but labeled wrong
The Couch Cane is great. My elderly mother likes it a lot. When it was shipped, however, I did not receive all the correct parts. I had no part #4 but two parts #5. I called the manufacturer and they said they would send me a #4, but again I received a #5. Eventually I got it worked out.
My product experience very different
I often go by Amazon reviews but this time I got disappointed. Too small a sample maybe?

Item handle appeared rusted.
Assembled item was rickety.
Item manual contained errors (use long bolts to fasten poles to floor stabilizers, not short bolts! and at least one other error that escapes me)
And sadly, the item did not help my mother. She was unable to get up despite her best efforts, using this device.

But as always, Amazon is great. I printed my free shipping return labels in minutes and I can get it out of the house tomorrow.

  • French Cone wood chairs have a cherry clinch
  • Sparse upholstered padded seats for comfort

Product Description

And they're a mark step up from common metal folding chairs. Designed for use with our folding tableland (sold separately). French Cane wood chairs have a cherry eat and premium upholstered padded seats for solace. Fold to 7 ¼" deep.

Customer Reviews

These folding chairs were worth my folding green.
My satisfaction with this purchase started with the arrival of these chairs and the careful way they're packed for shipment. The only problem out of the box was figuring out how to unfold the chair -- but it turns out the chair itself was a little stiff - making the fold-down process a little slower.

Once unfolded however, the chairs were ready to go. They're comfortable, strong, elegant and perfect with my cherry wood kitchen table (purchased separately from another vendor). No one would guess they're also folding chairs. I've seen these locally for $100 *per* chair, so the Amazon price on these is especially good.

Should I paint or stain cane chair?

I got a cane chair for nothing - someone was throwing it out at our Civic Recycling Centre and my husband bagged it. It's nothing special - just the standard kind you see for €50 in loads of shops now - a sort of orangy brown colour. I've repaired it with wood glue and now it needs refinishing. I was originally going to use Plastikote spray but it seems I'll need at least 2 cans and maybe primer too - that's almost €30 for a start! It seems to defeat the whole idea of recycling. I've plenty of half-empty stained varnish of various kinds - light oak, walnut but I'd have to brush these on.

What would you do?

Scrub it down with Soda soap and wire wool and coat with a cheap 'light wood' stain, this will achieve a natural aged look and not a false fresh painted old chair.

Spray paint is better because it doesn't fill in the spaces between the caning like brushing on paint will. Staining will only work if the cane has no finish whatsoever on it. I'd play safe and spray, I've used plasticote before with no primer - check the can.

Stain... if you want to save money paint if you love the chair to bits..

Now if it were a Lloyd Loom chair I would say paint as I have an old one which is now a collectors item even though the paint is distressed and flaking. It is a nineteen thirties design and made for comfort.

Saw one in shop in Dublin and they were asking funny money for it!

Paint is horrible for any kind of furniture,so tacky
and cheap looking.Best to rub it down with fine
Emery paper then clear varnish, this will make
the grain in the wood stand out and it will look super.

stain or light varnish

Maybe "Izzy Willy Nilly" by Cynthia Voigt?

In the book, she goes on a date with some guy, he drinks too much and she is injured in a car accident and has to be in a wheelchair. I remember reading it for our required reading when I was in HS.

Those items were sold in the furniture store during Christmas of 2004 and are no longer available for purchase at store price. The only way to get these items now is to purchase them in a yard sale. They are what's considered a 'rare' item and sell for many milliions of millsbucks.
