Great sun blocker
This shade is very effective, it rolls down and up like it is supposed to and does an excellent job of keeping the deck cooler. We installed some button snaps to prevent it from flopping in the wind.

A Shade Worth the Money
I purchased this shade to provide some privacy on our backyard patio. As was pointed out by another reviewer you can still see through the shade if you are very close to it, or probably if you sat in the dark with the light on! For my purposes it works perfectly. It is a nice quality shade, easily hung, looks very nice, and I am very pleased with it. I do roll it up each evening in case the wind should come up since our area is frequently windy. I also have a lattice work behind it which also helps to prevent blowing. I do plan to remove it come winter since we also have ice and snow. I think with a little care it should last a long time. I am very pleased with it.

the first and best investment for my porch....
We recently purchased a 1919 arts and crafts style bungalow with a wonderful, large front porch. It faces east and we get to enjoy our morning paper and coffee at a vintage table and chairs. watching the sun come up has become a daily ritual, but the recent lengthy "heat wave" chased us indoors or to the cooler back patio. UNTIL, I researched porch shades on line and found the "cooleroo" line. I ordered it, it arrived fast, and was easily installed. A perfect fit, shields us wonderfully from the scorching sun, and affords privacy while we dine (we now have dinner out there, too). The curb appeal is apparent; we get many compliments from passersby. This shade is the first and so far the best investment we have made for this wonderful house. the quality is excellent, we expect to have it up for a long time! Thanks so much for this very reasonably priced (under $75.00) shade. I'll never buy an inexpensive bamboo style again. Anyone who has a too sunny area, no matter what the era of the house, should consider a shade from this line. It's also a perfect sun shade for an exterior mounting over just a window.

Very junky
We have a Coolaroo shade on our picture window. It is high quality fabric, fastens down well, and we can see outside but light is still well blocked. When I ordered a couple of Coolaroo shades, thinking I would receive the same quality product, I was appalled when I actually received and opened the packages. I think it would probably work better to go to a local Home Depot or Walmart and purchase some of their shade cloth and tack it over the window. These shades have the same type of fabric as the bulk rolls of shade cloth sold everywhere. It's floppy and does not lie down properly unless it is tightly stretched and fastened down. It will not be possible to view the outside well through these shades. The shades also are cheaply made in every other way. I doubt the plastic parts will hold up well in hot climates. The plastic bar at the bottom of the shade wants to slide right out and the fasteners for that bar are plastic and poorly designed.

Good value. Simple, elegant design. Effective.
I admit I was skeptical. However, the ad copy hit the major reason I went looking for an outdoor shade: late afternoon sun, and the effects on room comfort.
The shade comes already assembled, in a long box. Got here quick too, about a week. I live in California. All you need do is take it out of the box (it's light, about 5 lb for a six foot shade), and screw it into a (preferably wood) surface. I made the 1/16" starter holes as the directions say, and the self-tapping wood screws went in like butter. If you must install in stucco, brick or other surface, consult a pro; you want the installation to be semi-permanent, since you will be pulling on the string a lot, and you don't want it to loosen with time! As it was, I had to install a cross beam to get the surface I needed to install, which I painted the same color as my patio. It took all of 1 hour to install, taking my time. It was not hard at all. Here is a picture of the shade in my patio: [...]
Once you have the shade up, you just unroll it, and screw in the bottom stays, that keep the shade from flapping in the wind.
It does what it says it does: it keeps the hot sun from shining into the room through the window, while allowing breezes to flow in. It does something else that is not advertised as much: it casts a colorful glow over your room - the room takes on the hue of the shade. The effect is really quite pleasant, kind of like a sunset effect in your room.
The shade seems to be of high quality, the aluminum mechanism that holds the shade at the top is painted the same color as the shade, and overall there is a quality with this product that inspires pride and confidence. I highly recommend it! 5 stars!
