Tommy
I originally owned the LP of Tommy by the Who with the London Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus, but to my horror was lost when I had moved from another state. This particular rendition is excellent and is a classic. It's also out of print so I was lucky to stumble upon it in cassette form.

The service from this merchant was excellent and I received the item fast. I highly recommend doing business with this e-tailer.
Overwhelmingly Amazing, Perfect, Miraculous and Timeless
My brother brought this album home in 1973, I believe (the artists who created the new box design for the album won Best Album Package Grammy in 1974). He was two years older than me, and because of his interest in music, I listened to EVERYTHING in rock and other genres. He'd take me from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath to Zeppelin, from Jesus Christ Superstar to Tommy.

As other's have said, this symphonic production BLOWS all other Who versions away. There is simply NO comparison. I never really liked the band version that much, and the live concerts lack the studio perfection as well as the orchestra, choir, etc.

This is an amazing blend of classical and rock music. The choir harmonics, flutes, violins, horns, are all expertly mixed into an overwhemling, awe-inspiring swirl of electric guitar, crashing drums and cymbals, and fantastic vocals. You hear it ALL, but it ALL sounds SO good.

The sound is crystal, and though you cannot replace the orginal album, I was THERE and heard the ALBUM (over and OVER), and I can tell you THIS digital version is excellent.

Many may not know that Rod Stewart sings "Pinball Wizard", Richie Havens' adds a killer rendition of "Eyesight to the Blind (The Hawker)", Ringo Starr is Uncle Ernie, and Steve Winwood sings the part of Captain Walker, with the most amazing "Christmas" you ever could have imagined. Richard Harris, the amazing english actor, covers "Go to the Mirror", and I believe Keith Moon is Cousin Kevin!

Roger is of course here, but I believe at his absolute best EVER as Tommy.

Everything, and I mean EVERTHING, about this Townshend masterpiece, is 1,000 times magnified. When you look at YouTube and see these KIDS in '64 - 66, and you see what YOU have accomplished in life... you realize how genuinely gifted they all were, and are.

Soooo....

- Buy it...
- Put on expensive headphones...
- Lay down, turn the lights low...
- Take a deep breath, relax...
- Close your eyes... and enjoy the greatest rock opera in the world...
This CD Can Be Summed Up In One Word: Magical
This is amazing music. I remember in 1973 telling a friend how much I liked The Who's "Tommy." He then informed me that the London Symphony Orchestra had recently made a recording of it. I was blown away by it then and remain so almost 35 years later. If I could own only ten CD's, it would make the cut. The cross-pollination of popular/rock music with classical arrangements and instruments often does not work; but when it does, you have the rarest of wonders as in this instance, something magical.

Pete Townshend of The Who as the Narrator is joined on this marvelous recording by Sandy Denny (Nurse), Graham Bell (Lover), Steve Winwood (Father), Maggie Bell (Mother), Richie Havens (Hawker), Merry Clayton (Acid Queen), Roger Daltrey (Tommy), John Entwistle (Cousin Kevin), Ringo Starr (the wicked Uncle Ernie), Rod Stewart (Local Lad) and Richard Harris (Doctor).

For recent converts who may not know the plot of the opera, Tommy as a child witnesses his father kill his mother's lover. His parents insist that "you didn't see it, you never heard it, not a word of it." As a result Tommy becomes "blind, deaf and dumb" and is interested in only two activities, playing penball ("penball wizard") and gazing at his reflection in a mirror. After his guilt-ridden mother smashes the mirror, Tommy believes he is the Messiah, etc., etc. ("How do you think he goes it?") There is so much beautiful music here: "It's A Boy," "Amazing Journey," "Do You Think It's Alright," "Tommy Can You Hear Me." The list goes on and on. Rarely does a later version-- in my opinion-- work better than the original. While The Who's "Tommy" is quite wonderful, for my money, this arrangement even surpasses it and is certainly much better than the soundtrack from the movie. Whoever came up with the idea of this recording was a genius. The liner notes indicate that David Measham is the conductor; the music was arranged by Wil Malone and James Sullivan.

This CD, as all good music should, will lift your spirits and bring you much joy. This arrangement is difficult to find. If you can get your hands on a copy, by all means buy it.
Any of you got Cousin Kevin??
I was very thrilled to finally have this in CD version to replace my long playing record version.

However it was shattered a bit when I noticed a song was missing. Turned out that Cousin Kevin has been skipped or wasn't on this CD. I feel cheated! I wonder if this tune has been left out in the other CDs also?? Or just mine?? Hmm.....

Would have been a collector's item if it wasn't for this unfortunate error.
Best Version of Tommy EVER Created!!!
I first heard the Tommy by the London Symphony Orchestra when I was in my final year in Junior High School. My music instructor let me borrow the LPs (in 1975).

I loved it, and thought it was one of the best rock operas ever. This remains my view to this day (16July2005). Back in 1975 I was unaware of other versions.

Recently, I was looking to find this version of Tommy. I purchased versions made by the Who and other versions made earlier and later but found them INFERIOR to the London Symphony version.

To experience this rock opera with the best score, arrangement and performance, then this is the version to hear.

This CD is a must have!!

Coping with Losing Some or All of Your Vision
The author wrote this book in 2005 after searching for books on this subject and finding none. I haven't found any others, either. The former manager of a tire business, the author was faced with his business failing and many other changes in his life as his vision deteriorated due to macular degeneration. With an upbeat attitude, he learned to turn his business around, to ask for help yet retain as much of his independence as possible, and when he couldn't find solutions, he invented them. This short book is quite encouraging for people, such as myself, who are faced with significant and ongoing vision loss. It covers subjects such as diagnosis and prognosis, learning where to get help, assistive devices, friends and family, independence, and coping. It does not go into great detail, and the book is not intended to provide medical information. Instead, it deals with the subject matter in a down-to-earth way that is suitable for almost any level of education. I would have given the book five stars, but I was not happy with the lack of organization, repetitiveness, and, at times, poor grammar in this book. Although the book is encouraging and inspirational, I would love to see a book with greater detail on the emotional struggles one goes through at various stages and how they cope with them, as well as how one copes without the family that this author has. In summary, a very good book on this subject.

Body found outside Info Commons

An autopsy was conducted on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Corporation.

A student was looking out of a another floor window of the IC when he or she saw a rapidly floating in the water by the rocks, according to the occasion report from Campus Security.

The student called Campus Security around 11 a.m. An constable responded and confirmed that there was a inanimate body wedged between the rocks. Campus Cover called CPD and CFD and then cleared the space of pedestrians.

Sophomore Jack York, a biology and Spanish paramount was on the second crush of the IC before Campus Cover arrived. When he progressive his study room, he noticed a few students looking out the window.

“I thoughtfulness maybe they were looking at the foxes,” he said, referring to the skulk of foxes that glowing along the lakefront. York went to the window to find out.

He said that he and the other students were unsure of what they saw at first:

“It look[ed] like a Halloween dim-wit had washed up or something. Or dialect mayhap it was something more.”

After the Campus Security officer looked around for a while, he began gesturing toward the windows, York said.

“The public official was pointing up at the window so I went to the desk and said ‘Hey, I over [the officer] wants the blinds to go down,’ ” York said. By after, the blind were closed.

What color paint would go with these blinds?

What color paint would go with a bedroom containing silver/aluminum color mini-blinds? I'm 26/male so please keep that in mind. I want something not too gloomy but not too happy. Something relatively lively but not too much. Thanks!

Light blue or light gray.

Depending on the light in the room.... If well lit by natural light then you can use "cool" colours (deep, dark blues..dusty greens... dusty rose or maybe teal)
Check your local paint store for samples and look at them in the room.

One idea is that you could totally ignore them and put up curtains. Then you could get curtains, bedspread, small carpet to match (or that you like) and the blinds wouldn't show because they would either be UP or closed behind the curtain.
Mushroom/antique white is always a good color for walls--it's a very light color that isn't bright white but it compliments all your other stuff. (like the new curtains and bedspread)

Hope this helps:
These are $14.99---hardware runs you $1.50

then for the bed:
$30--and you could put on blue sheets or red or just the same old ones you already have.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20099547

you could pick up used furniture or get new stuff that is black or white or you could paint it.

It's a respectable fix to your problem...jane

how about something in this line

Sherwin Williams has a color called "special gray" that might work well for you:
http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp

Although it is a gray, I don't think it's glum or depressing because it's a cool color and it has just enough violet in it to make it pleasing without being too feminine.

what is nice color of vinyl tiles and blinds to go with a light yellow-painted room?

should i go for a plain vinyl or the ones with prints on them?horizontal or vertical blinds?what color of blinds would be nice for a room of newly-married couple? (we painted our room light yellow). our baby girl (due october!) will share the same room with us.
what else can i hang on the wall to make the room look nice for us and for the baby?

A yellow blind would look good or maybe white.. i think vertical would be nice. At http://www.justblinds.com they have some really good prices on custom blinds, and can get almost any color. Don't get print cause you never know if you are going to change your room later and a single colored blind can fit in better in a new room where as a printed blind may not then you have to buy new blinds again.
Good luck

Where can I go to get my wood blinds cut without damaging the wood??

I have wood blinds that are too long for the windows so I need them cut. I don't want to use a saw and do it myself cause i know it will jsut go to waste. Do you know where I can go to cut them without damaging the wood. I already wen to home depot, they were no help..

I was going to say Home Depot, but since they were no help I would try Lowe's...they are pretty much the same as Home Depot, but they might be able to help : )

We're buying faux wood blinds for our entire house and are not sure which color to go with?

our dining room and living room (both lower level) have red oak flooring, the rest of the house is carpeted. Our walls are khaki and our window trim is white. We are thinking of matching the blinds to the hardwood floor. Would this work? And should we have all of the blinds be the same color, or is it acceptable to mix it up from room to room? We are concerned about having different color blinds viewable from outside the house. Thanks in advance.

i would do white..we did our trim on the windows as well as the windows themselves are white...any other color would have looked strange....they blend into the window...our walls are carpeted and oak and tile...i also think if you mix it up from room to room it will look strange and eventually it will be a huge turnoff to potential people who will want to buy it one day when you want to sell it...and outside is another issue...i would do white..but i like clean lines...less fusss..we got ours at homedepot they were cheaper and most didnt need to be cut ...and it still cost us almost a grand

Where do I go for the best deals on good window blinds?

We just bought a new home that will need 28 window blinds. We're undecided on cellular or PVC wood. Any advice on the best place to buy? We're looking for good to exceptional quality.
