Product Description

For decades American submarines have roamed the depths in a harmful battle for information and advantage in missions known only to a better few. Now, after six years of research, those missions are told in Hoodwink Man's Bluff, a magnificent achievement in investigative reporting. It reads like a spy thriller -- except everything in it is faithful. This is an epic of adventure, ingenuity, courage, and calamity beneath the sea, a story filled with unforgettable characters who engineered mettle missions to tap the enemy's underwater communications cables and to sidekick Soviet submarines. It is a story of heroes and spies, of courage and tragedy.

Dollop is known--and less has been published--about American submarine espionage during the Entirely War. These submerged sentinels silently monitored the Soviet Marrying's harbors, shadowed its subs, watched its brickbat tests, eavesdropped on its conversations, and even retrieved top-by stealth debris from the bottom of the sea. In an engaging mix of first-rate journalism and documented narrative, Sherry Sontag, Christopher Drew, and Annette Lawrence Drew describe what went on.

"Most of the stories in Heedless Man's Bluff have never been told publicly," they write, "and none have ever been told in this bulldoze of detail." Among their revelations is the most complete accounting to date of the 1968 disappearance of the U.S.S. Scorpion; the excuse of how the Navy located a live hydrogen batter lost by the Air Force; and a plot by the CIA and Howard Hughes to copy a Soviet sub. The most interesting chapter reveals how an American sub secretly tapped Soviet communications cables lower down the waves. Blind Man's Bluff is a compelling enrol about the courage, ingenuity, and patriotism of America's underwater spies. --John J. Miller

Over the dispatch of five years, investigative reporters Sherry Sontag and Chris Drew interviewed hundreds of men who had never verbal about their underwater lives—not even to their wives and children. They uncovered a riches of classified information: the tapping of undersea Soviet ring up cables, the stealing of Soviet weapons, the forlorn collisions of enemy submarines. They tell of medals awarded in hush-hush and deaths disguised with disinformation. Blind Man's Abrupt is a critical work of history that reads with all the unrest of a Tom Clancy novel and all the tragedy of Das Boot.

Blind Spot: The Secret History of American Counterterrorism

Product Description

In this revelatory new account, resident security expert Timothy Naftali relates the full fishing of America's decades-long attempt to struggle terrorism. On September 11, 2001, a long curriculum vitae of failures and missteps came to a head, with horrible results. But, explains Naftali, it didn't have to be so. Dodge Spot traces the long history of American efforts to brace terrorism, from World War II to the Munich Games pawn-taking to the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993. In captivating detail, based on original research and interviews with the key participants, Naftali describes why our initial successes in counterterrorism did not translate into success against Osama bin Laden later in the 1990s, and why, until 9/11, the autochthonous threat of terrorism was the largest blind speckle in United States national security.

What do you think about the statue of American Blind Justice?

The statue outside of almost every court house of a woman in robes with scales a double edjed sword and a blind forld.

Do you think it is a good symbol for today's justice?

Do you think it should/would be changed?

it most definitely should stay the way it is. prosecuters are imprisoning the common citizen blindly. innocent or guilty your prison bound.

How do blind American people know the difference between bank notes?

In England they are different sizes, and as there isn't any braille on dollar notes, how do they tell?

There are portable scanners, but those are expensive. Some use them, others don't. Some of us (yes, I'm blind) will mostly use debit cards when we're out because it's easier and we can check right away if we think we might have been ripped off. One strategy I've used when I'm in a restaurant or convenience store and not buying enough to justify using my bank card is to ask the cashier to count the money out to me as it's handed to me. This makes it harder for the person to cheat me as they have to think about it more to keep themselves from slipping and saying the wrong number. This also helps because I know what bills I'm handed and can fold them appropriately as I put them in my wallet. Blind people usually have a certain folding system for money they carry with them so they know what it is when they use it. Ones usually aren't folded. Fives are usually folded in half lengthwise. Tens are usually folded in half widthwise, and twenties are usually folded twice, once in each direction. Anything larger than that is usually not carried, or if it is, it's carried in a completely separate compartment of the wallet. At least that's how my boyfriend and I do it.

why are true American Republicans blinded by the fake Republican?

Why would we, as republicans even think about casting our vote for somebody like Senator McCain? He is for amnesty, open borders, liberal judges, and all things that are harmful to the American way of life...Why would any person of sane mind think of casting their vote for a man that is 72 yrs old and so out of the loop for improving life here in America?

Actually the true republicans are the social liberals and fiscal conservatives. If you look at the political map red states verses blue states you'll see todays republican party more represents the confederacy of old than the party of Lincoln.America is a Country based on freedom not of State imposed Christian values.

Why is the average American blinded by political correctness?

because when you are only given one point of view to focus on it becomes like a bright light... you only see the light until you can no longer see any thing else and eventually "blinded" by it
