HI, I am getting a sleep number bed on Friday for xmas, but didn't want to get their boxspring thing for more, someone is selling an ikea platform bed frame, it looks like it could work, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks!

Which is better the sleep number bed or the tempur-pedic mattress?

I have a tempurpedic pillow and within a couple of months the pillow flattens out slowly. So I'm wondering will the bed do the same thing within a year or two?
I've read a lot of bad things with the sleep number but no one explains why it's so bad?

We got the Sleep Number 7000 bed a month ago. I absolutley love it. My fiance was having back problems with our old innerspring matress, and after just a couple of nights, his back was feeling so much better.

The thing I like the best about it is that everynight before I go to bed I pump it up to 100 (the firmest) then I lay down and set it to my sleep number (which is 40). It slowly lets the air out and you feel your body slowly sinking into the bed and you can feel the support come up into the curve of your back and it feels like the bed was made specifically for your body.
Another good thing is that there are two seperate air chambers so my fiance can have his own firmness and I can have my own.

The main reason we got the 7000 model is because the fabric of the top of this model is a temperature balancing material that helps keep you cool when its hot and warm when its cold.

Another good thing about the sleep number is that it has a 20 year warranty and each piece is individually replaceable, so if one part gets messed up, you can order just that part, you dont have to wait for a whole new bed. (for example, the pillow top zippers off so you can just replace that.)

You can go to the sleep number store and try the bed out. If you go to a Select Comfort Sleep number store (as opposed to a regular matress store that carries the sleep number bed) they have a demonstration where you lay on the bed and it is hooked up with sensors to show where your pressure points are, and as the air is released, the pressure points on your body are relieved and it shows it on a computer screen.

Just so you know, you put the bed together your self, but it was really easy to do and the instructions were clear. It took us about 2 hours.
Ours is a california king size and it came in 7 different boxes because we got the foundation which is like a box spring but it is a durable plastic material that is solid all of the way under the bed to provide the best support for the bed, and we also got the foundation legs (which look really nice by the way). The foundation and legs took 5 boxes alone, so the acutal bed was only two boxes.

Another thing is that you have a choice between getting two wired remotes or one wireless remote. I suggest the two wired because with the one wireless remote, if you want to change your firmness in the middle of the night and your partner had the remote last then you either have to wake them up to hand it to you or get up go around to their side of the bed and get it. With the wired remotes you always have your remote there on your night stand.

Why would anyone buy a Sleep Number bed?

Sleep Number beds cost three times more than what a conventional mattress costs. If they are so hot, why do they have to advertise so much? I tried one once and it wasn't any better than my Serta. When I told the sales clerk, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. Everyone is brainwashed into thinking a simple air-bed is better. I would like your opinion.

You have to realize that trying the thing on one setting doesnt give you the full impact of the thing. Your serta mattress is nice, but its not capable of giving you the exact level of support that you need for maximum sleep at night.

I actually got to sleep on one for a week while on vacation. I can tell you that after I found the right setting, I was in heaven. Now if only I wasn't to cheap to buy one for myself.

Does anyone know how much electricity the pump on a Sleep Number bed uses?

We purchased a Sleep Number bed a few years ago. I'm not crazy about it but, the hubby is. Our electric bill (to me anyways) seem awful high and I was wondering if anyone would know how much electric the pump on these beds use.

I have a queen sized Sleep number bed. The motor states on it that it uses 1 amp. Watts = volts 120 times amps. so the motor uses 120 watts. but that is if you run the motor one hour. In normal use the motor is on only a few seconds and only when you change the pressure. Bottom line is that it should use less than a dimes worth of electricity in a whole year. Probable more like 2 to 3 cents.
