Shipping Catastrophe and Customer Service nightmare, but Love the bunkbed
After ordering the bundbeds, we received the shipment within the correct amount of time; however, we only received half of the parts. I called in the issue and they wrote down all the 100 missing parts. One week and two days later, we received that shipment (they refused to ship any way other than UPS ground). We were then missing half of those parts!
When I called in about these missing parts (all the slats and two other parts), they were very rude on the phone, but said they would ship them out. 3 days later, I called for the tracking number and was told that they were not shipped out because my account was flagged as being suspicious because I didn't tell them all the missing parts to begin with. What?! So, I'm called a liar and my child is sleeping on a mattress on the floor next to some of the parts of the bed for 3 weeks!
They argued with me for 30 minutes, stated they only had one customer service rep, wouldn't let me talk to the manager or owner. It was a nightmare!
After a total of SIX phone calls and 4 weeks, we received all the parts and my son loves the bunkbeds. It was worth all the ridiculous phone calls just for the smile on his face!
Better final result than the IKEA version, but harder to assemble
We have the IKEA steel bunk bed as well, and this version was significantly harder to assemble, however using the tips shared by other reviewers here on Amazon, we had no problems, and the final result is sturdier than the IKEA version and functionally very similar. I would highly recommend this bed, however do read the tips from the other reviewers, which highlight some assembly issues that you need to be aware of.
Great Beds!
I bought this set for my two oldest girls ages 4 & 5, they LOVE the bed and so do I! It is very sturdy and not bulky. My brother and fiancé put this together in about an hour, no issues what so ever. The fact that the beds can be separated into two twin beds is a huge plus. If taken care of properly I'm sure these beds can last a long while or at least until the child out grows the bed. I purchased two regular twin size mattresses for the bunks, rather than getting a bunk bed mattress or cheap mattress that wouldn't last as long as a regular mattress. Great space between the two beds also, great investment and I highly recommend it!
Good price, sturdy, skip the "slats" until the end
Agree with the other reviewers:

1) Assembly takes 2-3 hours if you don't make any mistakes and you're used to assembling boxed furniture (I did it myself, alone, and even with breaks didn't spend more than 3 hours).

2) Be sure to put the H-bar with the 7 holes down

3) Assemble the ENTIRE FRAME first--skip the slats until the very end. There is actually no point that I could discern to explain why the instructions don't have you build the entire frame (sides, ladder) prior to the slats. If you skip the slats and make a mistake with the assembly, you do not have to change the slats. I can't IMAGINE what unpopping all those slats would be like, because just putting them in the first time was a complete pain. I used a hammer; only one plastic "holder" broke.

Looks really cute.
ASSEMBLER BEWARE!!!!!
We've had the bed for about a month now and the kids love it. It's sturdier than I'd expected and there is plenty of room between bunks. HOWEVER, the assembly instructions for the bed are missing some VITAL information.

One of the cross bars that make up the long side of the top bunk (cross bar H for those who may actually purchase and assemble) has five large holes on one side, and five large holes and two small holes on the other. In Step 3 of the instructions, you are instructed to connect the end supports of the bed with the cross bars. What you are NOT told is that upper cross bar H MUST be connected with the seven-hole side facing DOWN. Otherwise, you will not be able to connect the ladder (which you will not discover until you get to Step 6!) This important detail is not articulated or illustrated AT ALL in the instructions. By the time I realized the mistake I had been misled to make, I would have had to disassemble the entire top bunk in order to get the ladder on, undoing and redoing about an hour's worth of work. Call me lazy, but I chose to simply leave the ladder off. We now have to help our 7-year-old top-bunk-dweller into bed every night. (one positive note: we don't have to worry about our 4-year-old bottom-bunk-dweller trying to climb to the top bunk).

This oversight on the manufacturer's part is not only egregious but potentially dangerous. Though we are generally satisfied with the bed so far, unless and until they correct the instructions, I would not recommend (unless you are fortunate enough to read this review before you try to put it together...).

Customer Reviews

Nice solid/simple bunk bed
We looked at many many many bunk beds. They really range in price and often the less expensive ones are not very stable. That is not the case with this one. It is very stable and is an excellent value for the money. We are using it at a second home it is perfect and we didn't spend a few thousand dollars. It took the three of us (yes our 9 year old even helped us put it together) about an hour to assemble. The only annoyance are the little clips that secure the support bars you place the mattress on, they are tough to snap in, but not a deal breaker.
Nice Bed
Some say the assembly is hard. Not too bad, it's just takes some time. It took an hour or so. Just make sure when you're assembling the pieces together that the holes that have pieces fitting to them later are facing the right way. It was hard to tell by the instructions which way they go together but if you study it a little it will go together fine. Snapping all the plastic pieces together for the support rods are hard to do with your fingers, use the handle of a screw driver or something to pop them in. The quality is pretty nice for the price. The ladder is a little hard on the feet since the rods are so small but for a kid it would be ok.
You may not like what u get.
The bunk bed itself is nice looking. However, I would recommend getting it from a local store. I bought it online and some of the parts were missing or deformed. If your get it online you may not get what you paid for.
Sturdy and attractive
UPS delivered the large box and left it in my driveway (I was home - they didn't bother to ring the bell). It was very heavy, but my neighbor helped me carry it into the house. Assembly instructions were pretty clear, and all parts were present and well-labeled. I laid out the pieces before inserting any bolts which avoided annoying mistakes. I've assembled furniture before and never has an assembly gone so smoothly. This bed was well-crafted and all the pieces fit together really well, with the exception of the long ladder piece on one end -- I can't for the life of me get the bottom bolt to line up right. Fortunately, it's on the end I'd planned to put against a wall, so it won't be used anyway. Also, there are plastic tab-like things that are intended to keep the support rods (beneath the mattress) in place, but they were very hard to get into the holes. I used a rubber mallet to get some in, but others just won't go. I assembled it alone in about three hours.
Great Bed
I like the bed. It is very well made. Only problem I had with the bed was the instructions. You may have to have a degree in engineering to put the bed together, but once it's together it's great.

Functional, Inexpensive, Stylish
I bought this bed/futon for my daughter's room. After comparing prices with local furniture stores and at Wal-mart, I found this bed set much less expensive than any other set I looked at. Even after paying the over 100 dollar shipping charge, the cost of the bed was less than local stores could offer.

It was relatively easy to set up. It took me less than an hour. Very few tools are needed beyond a screwdriver. It takes at least 2 people to set up the loft on the futon frame.

The bed is made of metal with a wood "veneer" on the four main posts. The upper bunk and lower futon courch seat is securely anchored to the four posts by metal screws. The upper and lower portions sit upon 4 vertical bolts. (It takes two people (three is better) to lift the upper bed on the lower frame.) Once set up, the bed is fairly sturdy, although it does sway a bit with my daughter in the upper bunk. I do not get the sense that the bed is unstable however; all bunk beds sway a bit. My daughter says the only thing she does not like about the bed is the ladder - it hurts her bare feet to climb to the upper loft.

The lower futon bed/seat is purchased separately. It easily folds out to become a spacious bed. It has a floor rest in the middle of the pull-out frame for added strength and stability. There is nothing flimsy about the futon support - it is strong and very functional.

I like the color of the bed and the simplicity of style. Much more elaborate and stylish lofts can be purchased, but at a much greater cost. My daughter likes the futon, as she can have a friend sleep-over and use the lower level.

My bed frame had some parts missing - hardware screws. I contacted the company in New York, and they sent the missing parts. There was some confusion on the exact parts, since the instructions provided with the bed did not exactly match the model of the bed!

This is a very heavy item and thus the shipping costs are high. If you can buy locally, you save over 100 dollars in shipping.

This would have garnered 5 of 5 stars had the parts been present and the instructions appropriate to the bed. I give the company credit in working with me to get the replacement parts.

For the grandkids
wE DECIDED TO GET BUNK BEDS FOR WHEN THE GRANDKIDS COME OVER AND WE ALREADY HAD A GOO FUTON SO THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION!
IT IS VERY STURDY AND GOOD LOOKING
excellent quality for a low price
We bought this bed for my 13 year old son for Christmas, so he could have friends over and have not have them sleep on a cot. The bed was very easy to put together, and I was pleasantly suprised at the quality. Most of the bed is sturdy metal; the bedposts are wood. It looks really nice and is very solid. As another reviewer said, the packaging and instructions speak to the quality and commitment of the manufacturer, and I agree that this manufacturer is committed to putting out a good product.

One recommendation I would make is to order the futon mattress/cushion online along with the bed. I thought that we could find one in the stores locally, but no such luck.

Our cats have figured out a way to get up on the top bunk and really like it up there!

A great bunk bed at a great price
I almost bought a futon bunk bed at twice the price and half the quality, then luckily stumbled onto this product. I knew the moment I started opening the shipping carton, which was packed with extreme care, this was going to be a great product. If you are that careful packing your product you must have a lot of pride in your product. When assembling the product you immediately sense there were no corners cut when designing this bunk bed. It is attractive, functional and very study. It's just a great product for what you pay.
well made for price
This bunk bed is very well made for the price. Assembly was easy. Recommend for teenagers or guest room.

'I'm a TV addict'

Sunday

LOVING Dylan’s new bed. Mostly because I’m in it.

There was a outdated between sending the bunk bed packing, and putting together Dylan’s replicate bed, that Dylan slept in my bed and I slept on the divan. All very Child Before Origin like were it not for one noteworthy detail: I regularly drop on the couch.

I’d like to say it’s on evenings all in listening to music, surrounded by candlelight, slipping softly into doze (which I’ve done at least twice and it’s engaging), perhaps add a smattering of poesy to the night (okay so not even twice) because that grand scheme is slightly fictitious, slightly originative, a little odd. Cool, right?  Only I’m quite more of a pass out watching Ellen DeGeneres ball on a brightly lit sort out kind of chick. Can anyone say, TV junkie?

Moving in the wink of an eye to the good part - Dylan has a TV in his lodge.  And it faces the new bed. And he’s not a TV junkie.  He is, however, an octopus in taste with my queen expanse bed.

Only Dylan forgot to hint at his best ally we’ve taken to nights bed swapping. A paramount friend, I’ve now discovered, who took to poking a stay  through Dylan’s bedroom window to wake him, back when Dylan had a bunk bed and I banned knocking before 10am.  A unsurpassed friend who meditating it’d be cool to revisit this single tradition at 8am this morning.

Venerated boy almost had a heart vilify as I launched in trepidation at the open window, skin of one's teeth wild

How secure a loft bunk bed will be in regards of safety and quality? Will it break while my kids sleeping?

I have seen the bunk loft beds and the legs that hols the bed looks very thing. I understand that wear and tear happends to any product, but in a bed specailly bunks am expecting 100% safety in regards of the quality and safety.

If you are buying a commercially made bunk bed from a department store or similar, then the bed itself will probably be just fine in terms of strength to hold a normal kid. It might even say in the manufacturer's literature how much it will hold.

If you need to assemble it yourself at home, then make sure that all of the screws, nuts and bolts are tight. Follow directions. Double-check everything.

Probably more important is routine inspection to be sure that it stays structurally sound. Kids will tend to jump on, in and over just about anything, tending to destroy even the best built furniture. You may need to adjust and tighten it periodically.

I grew up with a bunk bed. There was more danger from falling out (or being thrown out) then then there was from the bed falling apart.

What is an appropriate age to put a child in a bunk bed?

A friend of mine has 2 little girls, ages 3 and 2. His wife, on a whim, decided to purchase a bunk bed for them. Myself, and several other friends, think the girls are too young to sleep on the top bunk, but the wife doesn't want to put both of them together on the bottom. She wants them to sleep in their own beds. The bunk bed is not one that can be seperated as 2 seperate beds, so keeping the beds seperated until they are older is not an option. I was just curious as to what other people thought about this. Are the girls too young to have a bunk bed?

We just purchased a bunk bed for our 9 yr old son - right on the bed it says for 6 yrs and up. Yesterday morning our 3 1/2 yr girl fell out of bed (first time). I hope they get HUGE rails for the top bunk. Is the 3 yr old potty trained? If so, they probably will be getting call to go potty or cries from falling out. My personal opinion, but 3 is too young for a bunk. I hope no one gets hurt.

How can i teach my dog to jump on my bunk bed?

My dog jumped on the top bunk of my bunk bed twice but now she wont do it. How can i get her to jump up there again? I have tried making her run and jump and tried coxing her with a toy and food. Nothing seems to work.
Shes a chocolate lab/ setterand she has jumped higher than that before.

dog on your bed, how unhygienic, you could find youself with some serious alergies & breathing complaints

Where can I find a bunk bed cheap?

I'm shopping for a bunk bed for my two littles...preferably with a double on the bottom and single on the top. Since we are only planning on being in our apartment for a year before moving to a house, we don't want to get anything very expensive. We're just going to move it again after all. One child is only 4, that is why we are considering a double on the bottom. But it wouldn't have to be. Any suggestions on where I should look?

Try the classified ads in your newspaper or second hand furniture stores.

How do you make the bed for the top of a bunk bed or loft?

We just set up a bunk bed for my six year old. We can't figure out an easy way to make the bed. One full side is against a wall. Do we need to keep a step ladder handy or can anyone help?

hello there, having bunk beds for my kids, i of course have fitted sheets on the mattress or pad, and i use blankets that do not have to be tucked in, they just drape across the bed very nicely. they should hang just enough to hide your mattress. and your six year old can make his own bed while on his knees from the head of the bed, just show him how.

A family will buy twin over full bunk beds
