how can i make my bed warmer?

i live in a suite in college with 3 other people, so messing with the thermostat is not an option, and they always complain about being hot, but my bed always seems to be cold! i have a top sheet and two quilts on top, but i can never seem to get warm!

how frustrating! here's some ideas to help:

use flannel sheets; put a blanket under your bottom sheet in addition to your quilts on top; get a microwaveable heat pack and tuck it under the covers with you; wear warm socks to bed, and long sleeves and sweatpants. you can also try an electric blanket, but be sure to read the safety warnings if you do.

warm wishes,
cryllie

mattress cover with a heating thing in it - i have one.

Try using some flannel bed sheets. An electric blanket might help too! Sometimes using a sleeping bag on really cold nights helped me to stay warm.

A down comforter is extremely warm and so comfy to curl up in unless you have allergies. If you have access to a wall outlet close to your bed, you could use a heating pad or heated throw.

buy some flannel sheets...COZY!
Or better yet...put a MAN in your bed! ~*wink*~ LOL

About 5-10 before going to bed, place a water bottle or two under the blankets. Its nice and warm for winter, or you can buy an electric blanket.

Invite Officer Karma over.

Well I would get an electric blanket to keep you warm in that scenario.

Sleep with sweats and socks on and curl up in fetal position under blankets.

3 things i do (same prob but my own house..) flannel sheets, down comforter with flannel duve(cover for comforter) and like 30 before i get into bed i have one of those heating pads that you would use for like back achs or anything put one of those in your bed cover it up with your comforter and by the time you wash your face brush you teeth and get ready for bed it is sooo nice and warm and once the bed is all warm and you get in the down comforter will do enough the rest of the night so it is safer to turn off the heating pad and remove it before you fall asleep

I would say an electric mattress pad. Way cozy! Here is a description for you but you'd have to check your local Wal-Mart.

I have some good suggestions which I know work well because I live in an RV in Washington state whose main furnace doesn't work anymore! All I have is a space heater. But for the bed I have four comforters on top (found them at Goodwill, perfectly clean and comfy) and on the mattress I have a goose-down body pillow. You can order them in the same as bed sizes, then when you sleep on them you kind of sink in and are surrounded by warm, comfy feathers. Anything with down/feathers works very well to trap heat. I also have an electric blanket between me and the comforters. It took me a while to perfect the "How Not to Die of Hypothermia in Your Sleep" technique, but I think it's the down that does it!

use flannel sheets & buy electronic blanket

Okay, the easyest way to make your bed warmer is to rub it a little bit before you get in. I know it sounds crazy but it works.

PUT ME IN IT

Try an electric blanket or an electric mattress cover. If you want to go cheap (as is a necessity for most college students) - think old fashioned. Buy a hot water bottle, fill it up with hot water each night, and stick it under the covers with you.

Try buying one of those foam mattress pads..the foam will make it very warm under you to sleep on plus as others said then cover in flannel..

get a heater to put in your room and shut the door like to hours b4 you go to bed. or out it by your bedside on low if you share a room

electric blanket
hot water bottle
Both work very well.

I want to make a cloth bed-warmer, heat in the microwave. What is the best material to put inside it?

I made little teddy bears, rabbits, etc. and used Thai aromatic jasmine rice as the filling, but when heated, the bag was moist. Also I didn't find it aromatic at all. Is there a better filling?

Try whole corn which is grown as cattle feed and not as popping corn.

Or, this site tells what they include in their warmers:
http://www.reliefmart.com/heavens-therapy-foot-hand-warmer-pack.html
Here are some helpful hints I found about the rice packs:
Things To Know When Planning Your Rice Bag
~Use white, long grain rice. Do not use instant rice.
~Do not wash rice bags.
~To help the rice stay evenly spread, sew channels in the bag before inserting the rice. Sew three sides, press a hem on the open side, then sew channels from the sewn side to the open side. Add the rice using a funnel (don't overstuff the channels...fill one-half to three-quarters full) and sew shut across the open end. http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/ef_ricebags.html
Could you use flaxseed?
http://www.janome.com/project_show.php?id=167
But, I noticed in the ad for this bag that they say to "Just Microwave 2-3 minutes for moist heat!" Moist heat. Maybe it's unavoidable.

Hope this gives you some useful info! Maybe you could make several mini versions (for in your coat pockets), using each kind of filler suggested, and discover which is your favorite before you make an entire bed warmer??
Sweet (& warm) Dreams!

Should I go out to the bar now and attempt to pick up a bed warmer for tonight?

I know it may be a bit late for some of you but the bars are open until 4AM and I need some company. I just killed a bottle of whiskey so I am taking a taxi.
Hey rocker, what is so bloody sick about that???

I wish I had a bed warmer tonight... it's freakin cold here again :)

A softer warmer bed for my guinea pigs, we keep the A/C on 60 and I want them to be warm if they need to?

I was looking at petsmart website, I was thinking more like homemade bedding. I just want them to climb under something if they want to be warm, any ideas?

I made a cuddle cup which is basically like a fleecy bed, here is the instructions:
http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/accessories/17507-how-make-cuddle-cup-requires-sewing.html

Here are some pictures of my cuddle cup:

Another idea is to get an igloo/castle. Make a pocket by sewing some fleece and cotton together around the edges and leave an opening on 1 side, in the opening slide the wadding in and sew the hole up. Place it inside your igloo/castle.

You can also make bunk beds, have a look through the pictures on the following site. You can click on the image to enlarge it and sometimes instructions are there too:
http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/showgallery.php/cat/538

The following site has step by step information for making cuddle cups, cuddle sacks, fleece blankets and quilted covers.

Most importantly add lot's of hay!

How can I get my bed warmer? Electric blanket?

My house uses an electric heat pump as the source of heat. I freeze every night. The thermostat is on 70 but it makes no diff. I have a tempurpedic mattress and this thing is like a cold slab of quicksand. I wear two pairs of socks and my feet still freeze. Sometimes I wear a hat to bed.
What are my options for heating the bed and/or myself when I go to sleep.
Electric blanket - what kind is best?
Are there non-electrical heating pads of some sort out there?
Thanks

You can use an electric blanket to get the bed warm, then shut it off. I can't recommend any certain brands, but most are about the same. Some come with different controls and they jack the price up. Just get a good name and you should be all set. I sleep with my window wide open and the heat off in my room during the winter. I grew up in the 40's and we only had heat in the kitchen during the night. I found that a wool blanket and a down cover is all I need. Two thin blankets are better than one thick one. It's the air that is trapped that insulates. I have two pillows so if my head gets cold I put a pillow over my head. I have grown up this way for over 60 years and the cold hasn't killed me. I let my body do the work and after a few minutes it warms up and I am asleep. I spent a full year in the Arctic (-55F.below) and at survivor training they told us to put as man y bodies in the same bed to survive. I didn't luck out as my bunk mate was brunette and had a large beard and snored like hell. What I wouldn't have done for the smell of a blonde perfumed lassie.
